World Resources Institute

World Resources Institute (WRI) promotes sustainable development and advances social equity, in the believe that sustainability is essential to meeting human needs today and for fulfilling human aspirations tomorrow. WRI delivers both practical strategies for change and effective tools to implement them.

WRI works globally in cooperation with governments, businesses and civil society to build transformative solutions that protect the earth and improve people’s lives.

WRI organizes its work around four key programmatic goals:

● Climate Protection: Protect the global climate system from further harm due to emissions of greenhouse gases and help humanity and the natural world adapt to unavoidable climate change.

● Governance: Empower people and strengthen institutions to foster environmentally sound and socially equitable decision-making.

● Markets & Enterprise: Harness markets and enterprise to expand economic opportunity and protect the environment.

● People & Ecosystems: Reverse rapid degradation of ecosystems and assure their capacity to provide humans with needed goods and services.

WRI publishes about and does research on many issues such as agriculture and food; biodiversity and protected areas; climate and atmosphere; coastal and marine ecosystems; economics, business and the environment; energy and resources; governance and institutions; water resources and freshwater ecosystems.

WRI was launched June 3, 1982 as a center for policy research and analysis addressed to global resource and environmental issues. WRI has offices in Washington DC, China, India and (in 2013) Brazil, and works in over 40 countries on five continents. On the website of WRI you can find many concrete examples of their work and achievements.
