Transition Network

The mission of Transition Network is to inspire, encourage, connect, support and train communities as they adopt and adapt the transition model on their journey to urgently rebuild resilience and drastically reduce CO2 emissions.

The work of Transition Network is about communities printing their own money, growing their own food, localising their economies and setting up community power stations. At present there are Transition Initiatives in around 50 countries, for instance in Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, USA and Wales.

Transition Network provides communities with concepts, principles and practices of transition towards a sustainable society. Transition Network:

  • offers material in the form of manuals, books and films that are helpful in setting up and developing a Transition Initiative.
  • helps communities to deal with the difficulties they may come up against.
  • offers training-courses for citizens and innovators.
  • enables communities to connect to other Transition Initiatives, People and Projects around the world.
  • shares the knowledge and resources of projects other transitioners have been working on.

Over the years Transition Network published a steadily growing stable of "Transition Guides", covering fields like food, working with the local government, sustainable housing, domestic energy, transitioning cities and local money. In addition, two transition movies are made, called Transition 1.0 and Transition 2.0, which contain footage gleaned from initiatives around the world. The movies are translated in many languages and give an inspiring view of communities that are capable to transform themselves for the better.

At present there are over 1600 registered community initiatives all over the world that are connected with the Transition Network. On the website www.transitionnetwork.org you can find information about numerous projects in fields like energy, economy, food, transport, local government, housing, health, education, diversity and social justice.
