Hawthorne Valley Center for Social Research

The Hawthorne Valley Center for Social Research (CSR) is an independent "think and do" tank that combines research and practical initiatives as a means to identify and implement solutions to modern day social problems.

Its diverse set-up  of projects strongly reflects its mission and goals for promoting social health: supporting freedom and choice in cultural life, equality and democracy in political life, and associative cooperation in economic life. The directors are Gary Lamb and Christopher Schaefer, PhD.

The Center for Social Research is currently involved in the following projects:

- Income Inequalities and the Fundamental Social Law: Christopher Schaefer.  Research and analysis to be compiled in a book.

- Citizens’ Alliance for Universal School Choice (CAUSE): Sarah Hearn, Gary Lamb, Michael Lapointe. Researching and promoting school choice funding mechanisms, including education tax credits.

- Economic Literacy Project: Gary Lamb in collaboration with John Bloom (RSF Social Finance) and Arthur Edwards (Centre for Associative Economics). Collaborative initiative focusing on economic literacy of Waldorf school students.

- Money and Finance Resource Guide: Gary Lamb and Sarah Hearn. A compilation and annotation of Rudolf Steiner’s main indications on money and finance in the context of an associative economy and threefold social organism.

Gary Lamb wrote three books: “The Social Mission of Waldorf Education”, “Wellsprings of the Spirit”, and “Associative Economics: Spiritual Activity for the Common Good”, all published by AWSNA Publications.
