Forum for the Future

Forum for the Future, founded in 1996, is an independent non-profit organisation globally cooperating with business companies and governments to inspire new thinking, build creative partnerships and develop practical solutions. The Forum focuses on three critical global systems that underpin our lives and the prospects for sustainability: energy, food, finance.

The Forum believes that by understanding the dynamics of these systems, bringing together organisations playing key roles and intervening at strategic tipping points the best opportunity is created to transform these systems so they function in a new and more sustainable way.

Throughout its existence, Forum has led thinking and pioneered practice in sustainable development, from founding the London Sustainability Exchange to running the multi-award winning Farming Futures programme. The organization has worked with some of the best-known brands in the world, changing the debate about sustainable business and altering the way leading companies operate, from Aviva and AkzoNobel to Unilever and O2.

In the field of food they rethink equity and value creation in the system, championing fair relationships between farmers, manufacturers and retailers. They work to restore the system’s resilience by pioneering new ways to make better use of resources and to cut waste.

In the field of energy the Forum for the Future scales up sustainable heat, electricity and transport solutions. They help design new products, services and business models that create a sustainable energy system and they find new financial mechanisms to channel investment to innovative energy solutions.

According to the Forum money in the economy should flow to sustainable activities, not unsustainable ones. The Forum wishes to transform the financial world. They want to stimulate long-term thinking, rewarding businesses and investors for looking beyond short-term profits. They work on innovating financial models that drive investment towards sustainable activities.

Forum for the Future is involved in numerous projects all over the world and has offices in India, USA and UK.
