The challenges of the 21st century are immense. To meet them, we need radical transformation of current institutions like banks, businesses, transportation systems, the way we producte food, etcetera.
With the core belief that "the economy of nature and the ecology of man" are inseparable, Ecotrust, a conservation organization based in Portland, Oregon, designs economic alternatives that benefit people in the places they call home.

Ecotrust is an enterprising non-profit organization founded in 1991 that seeks to make a breakthrough contribution in the areas of conservation, social finance and community development. Ecotrust is a catalyst for radical, practical change with a specific focus in regional and remote areas and communities.

Ecotrust strives to inspire fresh thinking that creates economic opportunity, social equity, and environmental wellbeing. Their goal is to foster a natural model of development that creates more resilient communities, economies and ecosystems.

Ecotrust is working in four sectors to build a new economy that restores nature and invests in people:

  1. Business Innovation: Ecotrust is an incubator for social enterprise, designed to identify, test and invest in promising innovations and to design and build new technologies to solve business challenges.
  2. Social Finance: they support creative solutions by bringing capital and innovations together.
  3. Information Democracy: Ecotrust believes that information democracy is one of the cornerstones of a healthy economy. Therefore they work to make information more broadly available to the people who need it most. They offer data for download, utilizing open-source technologies and publish under Creative Common licenses to offer open, adaptive and collaborative learning.
  4. Community Development: the organization increases local participation and builds resilient local economies.

Ecotrust: "We invest in the world we want to see."
