The Flemish North South Movement 11-11-11 is committed to the fight against poverty in developing countries. The organization consists of more than sixty different organizations engaged in the fight against poverty in Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Philippines, Indonesia, South-East Asia, Peru, Andean Region, Bolivia, Ecuador and Haiti.

11-11-11 is a grass root organization that works with more than 20,000 local volunteers who conduct annual campaigns to raise money and awareness about the causes of poverty. The volunteers organize information meetings, debates, film festivals, petitions, world festivals and fund-raising campaigns. 11-11-11 has about 90 employees.

The money that is collected (annually between 4 and 6 million Euro) is partly spent on new campaigns and education in order to raise more awareness about the causes of poverty. According to 11-11-11 it is imperative that more and more people speak out against poverty. In this way public awareness can be a tool to influence political decision-makers and by public pressure persuade them to take appropriate measures.

11-11-11 also offers financial support to various organizations in developing countries. This includes financial support to small farmers, who are often hit hardest by poverty and malnutrition. By offering these farmers small (low rent) loans they can fight their way out of poverty. But 11-11-11 also builds new distribution centres, improves the infrastructure, builds fair trade networks and sets up worker cooperatives. On the website of 11-11-11 you can find many project descriptions.

11-11-11 also focuses on improving working conditions, women's rights, the right to clean drinking water, environmental responsible behaviour and democratization of decision-making processes. In collaboration with other aid and campaign organizations 11-11-11 works to adjust the international agricultural and trade policies.

In 2013 11-11-11 launched a two-year campaign on the topic of hunger and the right to food. One eighth of the world’s population is starving and, shockingly, that figure has remained stable for many years already. According to 11-11-11 hunger is not the result of scarcity but of poverty, inequality, the pursuit of economic profit, speculation, brutal land grabbing and wrong choices.
